The Truth About Church Pastors.

By James Schleusener

When I was young I thought the Pastor was selected by God because he was more holy than me.

I used to think that he was somehow better than me and God had chosen him to be the leader because of the “extra holy factor” I thought he had.

As I have been a pastor for over 10 years now, I have come to realise that I (the pastor) and other pastors are not somehow better. We have not achieved a level of holiness that is better than anyone. We do mess things up. We do get it wrong. We do have insecurities. We do have some serious issues. We are totally flawed and may even hurt people by accident.

We the Pastors want to confess to you, we are totally flawed humans on a journey with Jesus just like you.

So this is my plea.

Please don't put us on a pedestal. Please don't require too much of us. Please don't judge us. If we make a mistake, please don't get offended at us. If we accidentally hurt you, and it might just happen (unintentionally) because we are just human after all, please forgive us.

What pastors really need is HELP.

This is a call from me (a Pastor) to you (a christian).

Help us serve the world by being and building beautiful churches.

Help us by loving us, when we don't deserve it

Help us by forgiving us, even though it may hurt.

Help us by being honest with us.

Help us by telling us if you need help.

Help us by letting us know if you need a break, we just don't realise it sometimes.

Help us by believing in us. Trust me we need people to believe in us.

Help us with encouragement, even if the sermon was not that good. We are just learning.

Help us by joining a team and being committed to that team.

Help us by attending church every week (this helps the world see the church more clearly).

We the pastors are definitely not perfect, we ended up in this position simply because we had our hands up saying God what ever you want me to do I'm willing. Its only by the grace of God any pastor can do what they do.

Love you all xoxo

Hebrews 13:17

Have confidence in your leaders and submit to their authority, because they keep watch over you as those who must give an account. Do this so that their work will be a joy, not a burden, for that would be of no benefit to you.
